What is electric netting?
Starkline Electric Netting is a prefabricated electric fence system that provides reliable protection and containment for pets & livestock, as well as areas under threat by invasive animals. When ground-based animals contact the netting they feel a short, high-voltage pulse of electricity. Animals quickly learn to avoid contact, and thus the netting acts as a mental barrier as well as a physical barrier. We offer solutions to contain chickens, sheep, goats, horses, household pets, or livestock; as well as exclusion options to protect crops, gardens, beehives, and other plots from nuisance animals.
Why Starkline® netting?
Each Starkline netting product is designed for use with different animals. Netting height, number and spacing of horizontal and vertical conductive strands ensure safe and effective containment and protection for each animal type.
Poultry such as chickens, geese and ducks require a taller net with closer spacing between the lower horizontal strands to keep these birds in while protecting them from predators. Horse netting needs fewer horizontal strands and larger spacing so that the electric charge provided by a similarly powered energizer is sufficient to keep horses safely contained.
Is electric netting safe for animals and humans?
As with any product involving electricity, certain precautions need to be taken to ensure electric netting is used in a safe and humane way. Electric netting provides a short, high-voltage pulse of electricity when contacted which acts as a deterrent to animals contacting it repeatedly, but does no lasting harm. Young children or toddlers should never be left unattended for extended periods of time where electrified netting products are in use, as they may come in extensive contact with, or become entangled in, the product.
Does my netting need to be a closed-loop?
Nope! Attaching the ends to form a complete circuit is recommended when possible, but it is not required.
Can I connect multiple nets?
Yes, you can! By attaching the two metal clips at the ends of your separate netting, you can connect the two and extend your netting.

Can I cut my netting if it's too long? What do I do?
We do not recommend cutting the netting at all. Cutting your netting could damage it's effectiveness. You can shorten your netting by doubling it back over itself, or you can bundle the three extra posts together and tie the excess netting to the posts, so the netting is up off the ground.

Does the black strand at the bottom need to be off the ground?
The black strand is non-conductive and is designed to rest atop the ground. The horizontal strands above this strand should be kept off the ground and contact with vegetation should be limited as much as possible.
I need a new solar energizer battery. Where do I get one?
Unfortunately we do not sell replacement 12-volt batteries.

What does the warranty include?
All Energizers are under warranty for two year from the date of purchase. Our electric netting is not included under our warranty however there is a one-year warranty on posts, spikes, and connector clips.

How to ensure the proper operation of netting products?
Electric netting works as designed when its energizer is well grounded, the ground it comes in contact with is cleared of grass and weeds, and it is installed taut and with no overlapping strands. Installation instructions are included in all Starkline products.
Can I use extra posts to prop up certain spots of my fence?
Yes, any fiberglass post designed to be used with electric fencing can be used to support the fence if needed.
Can the posts be adjusted?
Yes, they can!
When will you have ______ back in stock?
When you come across an out-of-stock product, you'll notice an option next to it that says "Notify Me When Back In Stock." I have completed the setup, but the netting is not producing a shock, what do I do?
- Make sure the energizer is properly connected to the netting. Consult the energizer user manual to ensure proper installation. Reminder: Starkline recommends an energizer with an output of at least 0.1 Joules. For animals with thick fur or wool, an energizer output of 0.25 Joules is recommended.
- Make sure the netting is off the ground and not touching surrounding vegetation. During installation, ensure that the netting is taut by applying sufficient lateral tension to each post before stepping it into the ground.
- Double-check that the grounding rod is deep enough. Starkline ground rods should be driven at least 34” into the earth. Inadequate grounding will not allow the electric fencing system to ‘complete the circuit’ and will not provide a shock when contact is made.
- Test that the fence energizer is properly functioning with a voltmeter or electric fence tester. Refer to the energizer’s owner’s manual for testing instructions.
My ground rod is installed to the appropriate depth and connected correctly but I am still not getting a shock. What gives?
- If the soil is unusually dry and hard (or if you live in an arid climate) try pouring a 5-gallon bucket of water around the grounding rod. This can help the conductivity of the soil by increasing the moisture. This may need to be repeated every 2-3 days depending on conditions.
- If soaking the area around the grounding rod does not fix the issue, consider Starkline Positive/Negative netting for dry and arid soil conditions.
How do I keep my netting off the ground?
- During installation, ensure that the netting is taut by applying lateral tension to each post before stepping it into the ground.
- Starkline Netting comes with 4 lengths of extra black nylon rope and 4 black stakes. Tie one end of a nylon rope to the top of a fence post (we suggest using these on corners of the fence), tie the other end of the rope to a black stake, pull the rope tight at a 45-degree angle away from the post, and pound the stake into the ground.
How large an area can netting contain? Does my netting need to be connected at each end?
Our standard-size netting products cover an area sufficient for your animals’ movement, while remaining portable enough to expand or move for grazing rotation. Depending on how you choose to install your Starkline netting, a single netting roll can contain an area up to 1600 sq. ft. and as small as 400 sq. ft. Netting rolls can be connected together in increments of 82’ or 164’ to provide a larger area of protection.
